Who We Are:

Holger & Gesa HeitenHolger & Gesa Heiten

have trained with the School of Lost Borders in California with Steven Foster and Meredith Little and with Verena and Haiko Nitschke in Germany. We were both born in 1966 and are parents of two wonderful children.
We are experienced psychologists and psychotherapists. We offer Vision Quest groups all over Europe and the USA.

We founded the Eschwege Institute, to be able to carry the “rites of passage-work” deeper into the society.

Beside our own workshops and one English speaking Vision Quest per year in Scotland, we offer a training-programme for those, who want to do the rites of passage work themselves one day.

As we offer the foundation seminars in this training, we cooperate with a faculty of international and interdisciplinary elders or teachers in special fields of the rites of passage work. Some of the workshops these elders offer are English speaking.

The goal of our two-year-long-training-programme is, that participants, after joining our programme would have profound knowledge, skills and experiences, to be able to flexibly create rituals, in every given situation, to accompanying their clients through life transition processes. Therefore to become a Vision Quest guide will no longer be the major goal of the training. This will be part of the bigger goal of becoming an Initiation Mentor.

As this training is 50% German speaking, the idea is also to open and offer the English speaking workshops as an opportunity for all other interested participants, to taste into the different ways of the different elders / teachers and to get to know them.

English speaking training programme

In Cooperation with the Findhorn College in Scotland, we have set up an English speaking modular training programme called “Crossing thresholds”.
Using innovative methods based in eco-psychology and nature-based tools, this course will teach you effective ways to support youth and adults in life transition situations, both as individuals and in groups.

It equals our German speaking training in many ways and integrates the English speaking seminars in special fields, as part of the training.

The 7-module programme offers a 3 tier-structure for those who wish to qualify with basic, intermediate and advanced skills:
Threshold Guide Completion of modules 1-4
Transition Mentor Completion of modules 5-7
Vision Quest Guide Completion of Vision Quest Guide training

Our goal-group is mainly people who work with young people or people in transition phases of their life, such as social workers, teachers and experiential pedagogues etc. and people who want to find new ways of working with people in transition phases.

In cooperation with the Ojai Foundation (www.ojaifoundation.org) and the School of Lost Borders (www.schooloflostborders.com) in California, the Eschwege Institut is also hosting a training to become a carrier of „the way of council“ or a council trainer. See „calendar of events“ for council seminars.

We would be happy, to welcome you one day
